About The Role 

Please note this is an elected position for which a secondment will be agreed, this not a UNISON (directly) employed position. 

 

UNISON Cheshire East Local Government Branch has a vacancy for an enthusiastic and flexible individual to join our Branch Leads Officer Team. You will often be the first point of contact for our members and as such, good communication, listening and people skills are important. 

 

The role will be as an elected Assistant Branch Secretary, and will be allocated one of the Branch organisational sectors, which include Children and Family services, Adult services, Places and Corporate services and will cover all aspects of local government and its provider services 

• A background and knowledge of the trade union movement and its aims/objectives would be an advantage in taking on this role. 
• A commitment to supporting Equality and Diversity is essential. 

The role of the Assistant Branch Secretary is to work alongside the elected Branch Secretary and other elected Branch Officers encouraging a team working approach, development of new and existing workplace representatives, undertaking casework and being actively involved in strategic negotiations relevant to agreed areas of responsibility. 

In addition, the Assistant Branch Secretaries support the administration of the branch, provide day to day representation of members, helping to set-up and keep accurate records of meetings, they work closely with local stewards and workplace representatives, assisting local Reps in recruitment and organising at a local workplace level and liaising with UNISON at a Regional and National level. 

Unison follows the principles of proportionality and fair representation as observed under Rule 4.1 of the Unison Rule Book, and in accordance with guidelines drawn up by the National Executive Council.
